Shoukry to head for Niger to chair AU preparatory meetings of 12th Extraordinary Summit
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is set to head for Niamey Wednesday to preside over the preparatory meetings of the 12th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union in the light of Egypt's chairmanship of AU.
Shoukry will chair the meetings of the 35th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on Thursday and Friday followed by the summit on July 7, set to discuss the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said on Tuesday.
The summit will witness the launch of African Continental Free Trade Area after completing the number of the required endorsements - 22 endorsements.
Launching the free area is one of the most important priorities for the Egyptian chairmanship of the AU, Hafez noted.
The top diplomat will hold bilateral talks with a number of his African counterparts on the fringe of the meetings, the spokesman concluded.
