Art Alert: Massar Egbari in Alexandria for Summer Festival

The popular band will be from their latest album 'El-Album' in addition to some of their fan-memorised songs


Egyptian band Massar Egbari are gearing up for their upcoming concert at Alexandria's Roman Theatre in Kom El-Dikka on Thursday 25 July, amid the Cairo Opera House's Summer Festival.

Massar Egbari, who released their latest 'El-Album' in January, featured Ahmed Shieba in their last song 'Enzel W-Sharek,' released in mid-April, pushing Egyptian voters to participate in the recent referendum on the amendments to the Egyptian constitution.

The band was founded in 2005 by members Ayman Massoud (keyboards), Hani El-Dakkak (guitar and lead vocal), Ahmed Hafez (bass guitar) and Tamer Attallah (drums), before Mahmoud Siam (guitar) joined in 2008.

Massar Egbari – as written in their bio – plays a form of alternative Egyptian music, mixing rock, jazz and blues with some Oriental music. The band is developing regional and international fame.

Nine known bands and singers will perform at the historic place starting with Ayamna El-Helwa, then Medhat Saleh, Black Theama, Massar Egbari, Wust El-Balad and SoundTrack Orchestra respectively with Al-Nafikha and Taksir Sharki to perform at the same night before Tamer Ashour closes the festival.

The Opera's festival is also active is Sayed Darwisch Theater in Alexandria in addition to big concerts in Damanhour Opera House every Friday.

Another art festival is taking place in Alexandria at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina during the summer.
