Hungarian referee Ferenc Karako to officiate Ahly-Zamalek derby
Ahmed Abd El Rasoul, , Saturday 27 Jul 2019

Hungarian referee Ferenc Karako has been appointed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to officiate Sunday's anticipated Cairo derby between Ahly and archrivals Zamalek.

Prominent appearances of the 37-year old referee Karako through the 2018/2019 season were just one the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, one in the UEFA Youth League and another in the UEFA Under-17 Championship qualifications.

Karako will be reffing the derby in Alexandria at Borg El-Arab Stadium, where the Reds, Ahly, are hosting the Whites in the final matchday of the Egyptian Premier League.

Ahly, the leaders with 77 points, already secured the league title for the fourth successive season after Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Arab Contractors.

Zamalek, who lie second with 72 points, defeated Ismaily 3-1 at the same day and hoped Ahly would stumble against Contractors to keep the race alive until Sunday's derby; a dream which wouldn't come true.

On 30 March, Ahly held to a 0-0 draw against Zamalek in their confrontation of the league's first round.
