Zamalek's coach Khaled Galal has been sacked by the management after Sunday's 1-0 loss to archrivals Ahly in the final match day of the Egyptian League, while the team's skipper has been put up for sale.

"The club's board, headed by president Mortada Mansour, decided to sack the technical staff headed by coach Khaled Galal after the defeat against Ahly and the loss of the league title," read a statement on Zamalek's official website after the match.

"Mansour announced that the club will be hiring a new foreign coach for the new season within a week. The board has also decided to put midfielder Mohamed Ibrahim [the team captain] up for sale," the statement added.

Despite a slow start for the season, Ahly were crowned league champions last Wednesday after beating Arab Contractors 3-1, but their victory against rivals Zamalek added more woes for the Whites fans.

Despite former coach Christian Gross’ achievement in guiding the team to win the Confederation Cup title, Zamalek parted ways with the Swiss coach in June; appointing Galal in hopes of clinching the league title.

Galal previously led the Whites from April to June of 2018, when the team won the Egyptian Cup trophy.

Zamalek will be choosing from six candidates for the vacant coaching post, according to football supervisor Amir Mortada Mansour.

"We will be choosing between six candidates including two former coaches of the club," he told Sada El-Balad TV channel after the match.

"We have not settled on a definite name yet," he added.

Zamalek's management is set to hold a press conference on Wednesday to unveil the new summer signings and announce the names of the departing players.
