Pepe's move to Arsenal put him on top of the list of Africa's most expensive players


1-Nicolas Pepe, £72m ($87m) - Arsenal
Cote d'Ivoire winger Nicolas Pepe joined Arsenal from French side Lille in June 2019 for a club-record fee of £72 million.

2-Cedric Bakambu, £65.4m ($83m) – Beijing Guoan
The DR Congo striker joined the Chinese Super League in July 2018 after making a huge impact at Villarreal scoring 9 goals in 15 games.

3-Riyad Mahrez, £60m ($76m) – Manchester City
The Algerian winger joined Manchester City in July 2018 coming from Leicester City for a fee of £60 million to become the Citizens most expensive signing and a record transfer fee received by Leicester City.

4-Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, £56m ($71m) – Arsenal
The Gabon striker joined Arsenal coming from Dortmund in January 2018 for what was a club record fee.

5-Naby Keita, £52.75m ($64m) – Liverpool
Liverpool signed the Guinea midfielder in August 2017 but the deal was set to go through in June 2018. The deal was set at £48 million but they had to pay an additional premium of £4.75 as Leipzig qualified for the Europa League as per their agreement.

6-Mohamed Salah, £36.9m ($45m) – Liverpool
Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah became Africa's most expensive player after completing his move to Liverpool from AS Roma for a fee of £36.9 in the summer transfer window of 2017 season. Salah enjoyed a highly successful season with Roma, helping them finish as runners-up in the Italian Serie A behind champions Juventus. He scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

The Senegal forward became Africa's most expensive player when he joined Liverpool from Southampton for £35m in July 2016.

8-Eric Bailly, £30m (36.4m) – Manchester United
The Ivorian defender is the most expensive African defender after joining Manchester United from Villarreal in June 2016. He was Jose Mourinho first signing at Old Trafford.

9- Islam Slimani, £29.5m ($35.8m) – Leicester City
The Algerian striker joined Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon in summer 2016 for a club record fee of £29.5m including add-ons.

10 – Wilfried Bony, £28m ($34m) – Manchester City
The Ivorian striker became the most expensive African player when he joined Manchester City coming from Swansea in January 2018 for a fee of £28m. The athletic goalscoring machine has been in a terrific form in 2014, having finished as the Premier League's top scorer of the calendar year of 2014 with 20 goals.
