Saudi Arabia: Eid Adha to start Sunday 11 August
Ahram Online , Thursday 1 Aug 2019

Saudi Arabia has said on Thursday that the Eid Al-Adha holiday will start on Sunday 11 August, local media reported.

The announcement was made after the crescent moon was sighted in the kingdom on Thursday evening, meaning that 2 August will be the start of the Islamic month of Dhu'l-Hijjah.

Eid Al-Adha is one of the two most important religious holidays on the Islamic calendar.

It marks the beginning of the annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia and celebrates the Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his own son as an act of obedience to God.

It is celebrated over four days.
