Art Alert: Hany Shaker to give a concert in August

The Egyptian star, who started his career during the golden age of Egyptian music, has been re-elected head of Musicians Syndicate










Egyptian star Hany Shaker will perform on 23 August at the Salah El-Din Citadel as part of the28th Citadel Festival for Music and Singing.

Shaker has headed the Musicians Syndicate since 2015.

The 66-year-old singer will perform some of his best known songs audiences have come to love throughout Shaker's career spanning more than 45 years, including Ally El-Dehkaya, Lessa Betesaly, Yaritak Maaya.

Shaker started his singing journey at a time when some of Egypt’s musical legends were at their peak, including Umm Kulthoum, Farid El-Atrash, Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, and most notably Abdel-Halim Hafez, who greatly influenced Shaker’s musical approach.

He has collaborated with iconic composers like Yehia El-Mougi, Baligh Hamdi, Ammar El-Sherei and Mounir Mourad, and has appeared in a few movies including 1966's Sayed Darwish, directed by Ahmed Badrakhan, playing the legendary musician during his younger years.

Some 45 concerts will be performed at the 28th Citadel Festival for Music and Singing between 18 August and 1 September hosting three concert a day at the historical venue.

Cairo Steps, Massar Egbari, Nesma Abdel-Aziz, Ali El-Haggar, Medhat Saleh, Ghalia Ben Ali, Dina El-Wedidi and Omar Khairat are among the highlights of singers and bands performing at the festival which will also host performances from Algeria, China, Namibia and Venezuela.
