Minister of culture against general strike
Ahram Online, Saturday 11 Feb 2012
Shaker Abdel Hamid has condemned calls for nationwide industrial action, saying any strike is harmful to Egypt's economy

While the Cinema Syndicate joined calls for a general strike 11 February, Egyptian Minister of Culture Shaker Abdel Hamid released a statement condemning the strike, saying it will damage an economy already experiencing a downturn.

“The process towards reconstruction has already begun through parliamentary elections,” he said. “There is no need to destroy what has already been achieved.”

The Musicians’ Syndicate headed by Iman El-Bahr Darwish and the Actors’ Syndicate headed by Ashraf Abdel Ghaffour also condemned the strike.
