Delegation of Sudan's Alliance for Freedom and Change joins talks in Cairo

An official delegation of the Sudanese Alliance for Freedom and Change has arrived in Cairo on Saturday to discuss the ongoing turmoil in Sudan, a source told Ahram Online.

The delegation include several leaders including Omar Al-Dagir, Ali Al-Rayah Al-Sanhouri, Madani Abbas, Babikr Faisal, Wagdy Saleh and Kamal Ismail.

"Egypt is trying to mediate between its Sudanese brothers in order to find a solution to the contentious issues," the source added.

This visit comes just a day after a delegation of Sudanese opposition leaders arrived in Cairo to discuss the ongoing political turmoil in Egypt's southern neighbour.

The delegation comprised leaders of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), an umbrella coalition of rebel groups that was formed in 2011.

It included the organisation's head Gibril Ibrahim, the head of the Sudan Liberation Movement Minni Minawi, the head of Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North Malik Agar, the deputy head Yassir Arman, and the head of Sudan Liberation Movement Transition Council Hadi Idris.

The delegation held meetings in Cairo on Friday to discuss "developments in the political situation in Sudan, and work to resolve contentious issues."

Mass protests against austerity policies began last winter in Sudan and led to the ouster of long-time ruler Omar Al-Bashir in April.

Demonstrations have continued as opposition groups negotiate a transition to civilian rule with the military council that took over from Al-Bashir.

Protesters accuse the security services of using violence against demonstrators.
