UAE calls for dialogue between warring Yemeni parties in Aden after meeting with Saudi Arabia's crown prince
Reuters, , Monday 12 Aug 2019

The United Arab Emirates on Monday urged Yemeni southern separatists that took control of Aden, seat of the internationally-recognized government, to engage in dialogue to defuse the crisis.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan also said in a statement after meeting Saudi Arabia's crown prince in the kingdom that the two Gulf Arab allies would "adamantly confront any and all powers that threaten the safety and security of the region".

This meeting, in the region of Mecca, came after the Saudi-led coalition intervened in Aden on Sunday in support of the Yemeni government after the southern separatists effectively took over the port city.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia's King Salman met Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in Mecca, on the sidelines of the haj pilgrimage, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported.

The meeting "discussed efforts to achieve security and stability" in Yemen, it said.
