Egypt, US presidents meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed bilateral ties with US President Donald Trump in a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France's Biarritz on Monday morning.

According to Ahram Arabic website correspondent in Biarritz, Trump had told the media he was always looking forward to meet with President El-Sisi.

Trump added El-Sisi's efforts were important for the stability of the Middle East.

"Egypt presented already a great performance under the commandership of President El-Sisi," Trump said.

In addition to boosting bilateral ties, El-Sisi discussed with his US counterpart developments on the war on terrorism. Trump praised El-Sisi's efforts to promote the principles of religious tolerance and freedom of worship in Egypt, said the Egyptian presidency in its statement on the meeting.

El-Sisi stressed the importance of uniting the international community's endeavours to eradicate terrorism and cut financial support and arms supplies to terrorist organisations.

Among a host of regional and international files the two presidents discussed, El-Sisi asserted Egypt's support of efforts directed at finding a just solution to the Palestinian cause, based on international resolutions, that restores stability to the Middle East.

The Libya and Syria crises should be resolved politically in the nearest time possible, the two presidents agreed. El-Sisi stressed that supporting national institutions in Libya and Syria was of critical importance to maintain the unity of the two countries.
