Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi believes that playing against France for the second time would be very interesting due to the history both countries share as well as their sporting rivalry.

"I want to play, one day, a friendly game against France for the first time since their only meeting 20 years ago," Belmadi was quoted as saying on French website l'Equipe.

The 43-year old French-born coach led Algeria to their second African Nations Cup title last July after they beat Senegal 1-0 in the final.

"It would be a prestigious game against a two-time World Champion. I am interested in this sporting aspect. But then, you know that there is a long history behind this confrontation against France. It would be very interesting to play against them," he added.

Last month, France FA boss Noel Le Graet said he finds it "abnormal" that the two countries do not face each other.

France and Algeria met once in October 2001 but the match was interrupted after Algerian fans invaded the pitch.
