Sokhna Port crisis to be settled
Ahram Online, Friday 17 Feb 2012
The Ain Sokhna Port workers' strike will end thanks to an agreement between Egypt's Manpower Ministry, the workers and the private operating company DP World

On Sunday, more than 900 workers started a sit-in at the Red Sea port, announcing they would be on strike until the management met their demands which included a hardship allowance amounting to at least 30 percent of full wages and the restructuring of the wage system to include a share of the company's profits for 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The sole private port, which is operated by the Dubai-based DP World, employs around 1,200 permanent and 4,000 temporary workers.
