The Cairo Video Festival (CVF) kicked off the activities of its ninth edition on Monday with a rich artistic programme scheduled in various art spaces in Cairo till the end of September.

This year's edition of the video art and experimental film productions gala, developed by artistic director Mena El Shazly, includes nine different programmes organised in collaboration with a large number of local artists, filmmakers and writers.

One hundred and one viedo works from more than 30 countries have been selected from 783 submissions – all produced after January 2017 – by the CVF eight-member Selection and Programmers Committee, which has also organised a workshop, a performance and a podcast.

Founded by Medrar in 2005, and directed by Mohamed Allam, Cairo Video Festival for video art and experimental film is "a platform to start a conversation between video-artists, curators and the public, and a space for artists to showcase their innovative, low-budget video art productions that are selected according to quality, authenticity and conviction in investigation of subject matter," as the organisers describes their mission.

The festival's activities are being held in various locations across Cairo, including Cairo Festival City Mall, Zawya Cinema, Cairo Jazz Club (and 610), Cimatheque, Diwan (New Cairo, Heliopolis, Zamalek), Elhadara Cinema at Cairo Opera House, El-Semary Modern Furniture, Falak, Medrar for Contemporary Art, The Factory and Omar Effendi (Talat Harb, Sayeda Zainab, Ibrahim El-Lakaany Roxy and Mohandessin).

The event is supported by many local and international governmental and private entities of partners and sponsors.
