I respect Senegal's Generation Foot, says Zamalek boss Micho ahead of away game
Mahmoud Sheleib, Friday 13 Sep 2019

Zamalek coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has said that his team will not underestimate Senegal's Generation Foot who the Cairo giants are scheduled to face on Saturday in the first leg of the 32nd round of the African Champions League.

"I respect our counterpart, and we'll try to achieve a positive result in the away match," Micho said at a press conference on Friday.

"I have studied them well and known their strengths and weaknesses, and I'm aware that they defeated Egypt's Maqassa two years ago.

"We always use the strategy of ‘the best defence is to attack,’ and we'll search for gaps in the Senegalese team's defences," the 50-year-old Serbian coach added.

Micho has led Zamalek for four matches so far, all of which ended in wins. Three were in the Egypt Cup, which Zamalek won after defeating Pyramids 3-0 in the final, and the fourth was in the African Champions League, where Zamalek smashed Dekadeha 6-0.

The White Knights' captain Mahmoud “Shikabala” Abdel-Razik and Moroccan winger Mohamed Ounajem were excluded from the squad which travelled to Senegal. It was reported that the coach wanted to rest the duo for Egypt Super Cup match against Ahly which will be played on 20 September.

"We'll miss Shikabala and Ounajem as they are very important for the team. This will certainly affect us and it will motivate the counterparts," the former Orlando Pirates boss said.

"On the other hand I trust our squad, who will be able to make up for the absence of the duo," he said.

"Our team is very stable technically, and we don't think of anything except victory."

Zamalek will face Generation Foot at 8pm Cairo local time (GMT+2) on Saturday, while the second leg game will be played in Egypt on 28 September.

The White Knights won the 2018-2019 CAF Confederation Cup and the Egypt Super Cup, and have the chance to add more titles from last season to their cabinet, as the Egypt Super Cup and African Super Cup haven't been played yet.
