Judge Farouk Sultan, the head of the Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC) said the SEC has decided to postpone announcing the timetable for the presidential elections until they find a way for Egyptians abroad to vote.

Sultan said that the SEC had previously planned to hold the elections over two days and then conduct the vote count over two days. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs found that it was not practical due to the large number of Egyptians living overseas and the shortage in staff.

The presidential elections are set to be carried out in one stage unlike the parliamentary elections which were conducted three stages.

However, Sultan noted that the SEC will announce the timetable before the presidential registration period which is due to begin on 10 March. He also stressed that the timetable will not violate the schedule put forth by the ruling military council to hand over power to a civilian administration in June.

The SEC has also decided to end the registration period for the presidential electiopns on 8 April.
