West Bromwich defender Ahmed Hegazi has returned back to training after more than two months on the sidelines, the English Championship club said on Tuesday.

"Things you love to see. @Hegazi back in training," West Bromwich said on their Twitter account.

"The Egyptian defender, who hasn't featured in a game since playing for Egypt against South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations on the 6th of July, underwent surgery to rectify a long-standing ankle problem towards the end of the same month," the club added on their website.

Hegazi has been one of West Brom's key players since joining from Egyptian giants Ahly in the summer of 2017.

He remained with the club following their relegation to the second tier last year and helped them challenge for promotion to the top flight, only to falter in the playoff after a defeat by Aston Villa last May.

The 28-year-old made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring once and providing two assists.
