Sudan coach Zdravko Lugarisic said on Wednesday that he voted for Mohamed Salah as his first choice for The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award but was surprised to find out that his vote had gone to Lionel Messi instead.
Lugarisic shared an image of his voting form on his Twitter account, which included Liverpool's Egyptian winger Salah as his top choice, ahead of Sadio Mane and French winger Kelyan Mbappe.
FIFA revealed on Monday the selections of national team coaches, which showed that Lugarisic had picked Lionel Messi, Virgil Van Dijk and Mane respectively.
Argentina's Messi defeated Liverpool defender Van Dijk and five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo to win the best FIFA player of the year award for a record sixth time on Monday.
He claimed 46 points, eight points ahead of Van Dijk who earned 38 points.
Ronaldo finished third with 36 points while Salah came fourth with 26 points.
