Currently on show at the Cervantes Institute (Spanish Cultural Centre) in Dokki,the photo exhibition “Diego and Frida, a Halfway Smile” showcases 48 50 cm by 70 cm photographs printed on cardboard that show striking and crucial moments in the life of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, two of the great Mexican painters of the 20th century.

Rivera is one of greatest Mexican painters and muralists, who achieved universal fame for his art. His wife Frida, in addition to being distinguished for her pictorial work, became an icon of female power and gender equality in the world. Together they were one of the most interesting couples of the twentieth century.

The exhibition features photography by Guillermo Zamora, Agustín Víctor Casasola, Juan Guzmán, Bernard G. Silverstein,Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Lucienne Blochamong others, highlighting different stages of the life of this extraordinary couple since ​their early childhood, youth, marriage and revolutionary life.

The exhibition is organised by the Mexican Embassy in Egypt in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute in Cairo, on the occasion of Mexico's Independence Day.


The exhibition will remain on view until 25October.
