The Mumbai Film Festival is kicking off its 21st edition from 17 to 24 October in the Indian city with three Egyptian films scheduled to be screened in the Egyptian Cinema's Special Presentation programme.



The three films are two award-winning feature films, EXT Night and Ali, the Goat and Ibrahim, in addition to the documentary Dreamaway.

The winner of many awards in various festivals, Exterior Night, which is making its India premier at Mumbai, is written by Sherif El-Alfy, produced by Hala Lotfy, and directed by Ahmed Abdallah; starring Karim Kassem, Mona Hala, Sherif Dessouky, Basma, and Ahmed Malek.



The drama, about a filmmaker, a cabbie, and a prostitute who were thrown together for one night’s wild ride, received one the biggest prizes at the Malmo Arab Film Festival last week.

Internationally appreciated; Ali, the Goat and Ibrahim tells the story of a man who believes that his dead girlfriend has been reincarnated as a goat, which he names Nada. At the healer’s clinic, Ali meets Ibrahim, and they are both diagnosed as being cursed.



The film stars Ahmed Magdy, Salwa Mohamed Ali and Nahed El-Sebaai, with a screenplay by Ahmed Amer, based on a story by Ibrahim El-Batout.

Directed by Marwan Omara and Johanna Domk, Dreamaway, which is making its India premier at Mumbai, is a documentary about a group of workers in a luxuries hotel in Sharm El Sheikh "forced to confront their future and their identity, lingering between the liberal, Western lifestyle of the town and the traditional culture they originate from."



The Egyptian cinema programme was designed by Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky, the festival's consultant for MENA region.
