Operations of the Cairo metro system's first line have returned to normal after they were partially disrupted on Thursday morning following a failure in the service's electricity network at a number of stations, Egypt's Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday.
The power failure occurred when a billboard poll fell on the metro's power lines between Ghamra and El-Demerdash stations on metro line 1, which runs from Helwan to El-Marg.
Train movement has been restored at the central Cairo stations of Ghamra, El-Demerdash and Mansheyet El-Sadr on the Metro's first line, the ministry said.
The poll, which belongs to a privately-owned advertising firm, was holding up a billboard outside the metro line wall.
The disruption caused delays in train arrivals and repeated mid-station stops.
More than 3 million commuters use the Cairo metro every day.
