Egypt's parliament to expand requests for release of young prisoners
MENA , Monday 21 Oct 2019

The House of Representatives' Human Rights Committee said on Monday it would continue to contact the bodies concerned to expand requests for the release of young prisoners, in accordance with the relative presidential decree.

Human RightsCommittee Chairman Alaa Abed, during a parliamentary meeting, asserted the committee's full support of national state institutions, the president, the Armed Forces, the police, the judiciary and the national media. He declared absolute rejection of attempts to drive a wedge between the committee and state institutions.

Abed urged lawmakers to resume efforts to set human rights standards in conformity with local and global criteria, adding that the committee would continue its local and foreign visits and visits to jails, police stations, hospitals and poorest villages to respond to periodical reports on human rights by international organisations.

The committee will hold regular meetings with ambassadors of the European Union, North and South America and the Arab states, he said.
