“Roaming Echoes”, the first solo exhibition by Nevine Hamza is currently showing atSOMA art gallery. In this body of work, Hamza explores the concept of the multiverse. Her landscape paintings are characterised by a geometric aesthetic blurring the boundaries between earth and sky. The sky opening up into space is the main character in her work, serving as a reflection of her ideas and provoking a deep sense of silence, perspective, and thought. The works on show tackle this imaginary journey through time and space where different worlds, parallel lives, unobserved realities, and unknown states of existence are observed. It provides a mix of imagination and reality producing a feeling at once of familiarity and confusion.
“We are born and we live, believing in the unseen, feeling the unknown; we strive to see beyond our horizons, we long to migrate to an unknown future, to other tales and hopes we wished to have lived,” explains Hamza. “Roaming Echoes” presents a narrative of this journey through infinity, setting the heart free and revealing the power of the void. This silent emptiness takes the viewer beyond the horizons of the physical world, contemplating the unknown, believing in vastness and forming their own fiction, chronology and experience.
The exhibition is on until 16 December.
