A visual art display, circus show, and artists from Al-Tannoura Egyptian Heritage Dance Troupe were among the participants of the celebrations of the Day for People with Disabilities on Tuesday.

Organised by the Cultural Production Affairs Sector, headed by director Khaled Galal and operating under the Ministry of Culture, the events took place at Cairo's Library of Islamic Civilization.

The day included an art workshop curated by visual artists Asma Essam Gabr and Lina Abdel-Fattah. The workshop focused on highlighting the skills of the people with disabilities.

On the sidelines of the workshop, an exhibition of works by people with disabilities was opened by artist Wafaa El-Hakim. The works on display included paintings, handicrafts, embroidery, crochet art, and jewellery.

The celebrations also included shows by the circus artist Jehan Ashour and folkloric artist Amal El-Husseiny.

The celebrations come as part of the efforts of the Cultural Production Affairs Sector to shed light on the many talents within the people with disabilities community with a hope to better integrate them into the creative work market and a society at large.

The celebration honoured numerous distinguished participants, gifting them certificates of appreciation written by Arabic calligrapher Lamia Badran.
