Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Alexandria said it’s shutting down on Wednesday schools in the city due to ‘unstable weather conditions’.

In a statement on Facebook, the governorate said the decision was made upon orders by Alexandria Governor Mohamed El-Sharif to ensure the safety of students.

Nearby coastal governorate of Matrouh also announced it will shut down Matrouh University on Wednesday and Thursday amid weather warnings.

The suspension comes one day after Egypt’s Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned of a wave of unstable weather nationwide from Tuesday till Thursday.
