China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi landed in Cairo on Tuesday for a three-day visit that will include talks with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and other senior officials.

Liao Liqiang, China’s ambassador to Egypt, said Wang will exchange in-depth viewpoints on major regional and international issues, as well as continued means to achieve consensus between Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on pushing Egyptian-Chinese joint cooperation, as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Wang is set to meet with Shoukry on Wednesday.

His stop in Egypt is part of an African tour which will include Djibouti, Eritrea, Burundi, and Zimbabwe.

Chinese companies have a major role in the development of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The two countries are also cooperating on creating the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone near Egypt’s Suez Canal.
