EgyptAir announced on Thursday that it will resume its flights to Baghdad on Saturday following a three-day suspension due to security concerns.

"After the evaluation and follow up on the security conditions, EgyptAir decided to resume its flights to Baghdad starting Saturday 11 January," said a short statement by Egypt's national airline on social media.

EgyptAir added that there would be a continuous follow up on the security conditions in the city in coordination with the security authorities involved in order to maintain the safety of passengers and airplanes.

EgyptAir flights to Baghdad were halted from Tuesday till Friday due to the unstable security conditions in the city.

A US airstrike at Baghdad airport on Friday killed Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, prompting concerns about further escalations in the country and the wider region.

EgyptAir operates at least four flights to Baghdad International Airport from Cairo International Airport, according to its official website.
