Twenty short feature films and seven short documentaries will participate in the main competition

The sixth edition of the Alexandria Short Film Festival (ASFF) will take place between 26 and 31 January with all films screened at Feryal Cinema, Alexandria.

The festival was founded in 2015 by three young Egyptian filmmakers: Mohamed Mahmoud, who is also the festival's president, Mohamed Saadoun, the festival's director, and Moni Mahmoud.

Since its third round, the ASFF's honorary president has been Mohamed El-Adl, an Egyptian producer, screenwriter, and co-founder of El-Adl Group production company which he established together with his brothers Medhat and Samy.

Films from numerous Arab countries will participate in this year's edition: Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Lebanon, Algeria, Syria, Tunisia, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

The jury of the festival's main competition include filmmaker and producer Amr Abed (Egypt), director and actress Maryam Ferjani (Tunisia), programmer and film critic Ahmed Shawki (Egypt), producer Heba Othman (Egypt) and Roche Abdel-Fattah (Syria), who is director and manager of the Arab Film Festival in Holland.

The festival revealed that 20 short feature films and seven short documentaries will participate in the main competition.

The festival will also screen 10 students' films, each varying between two and 18 minutes. The jury panel responsible for choosing the winner of this section includes: actress and editor Enjy Wagdan, producer Moataz Abdel-Wahab, and actress Gameela Awad.

Egyptian actor Ibrahim Nasr will be honoured at the festival's opening ceremony.

The ASFF's aim is to spread the culture of short films while energising Alexandria's cinematic culture.

The festival stresses the presentation of short films from Egypt and other Arab countries, including documentaries, feature and animated films.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will host workshops and seminars revolving around the short films culture and cinema at large.

The ASFF's sixth edition chose a picture of Hypatia, a Hellenistic philosopher and astronomer who lived in Alexandria, as the festival's poster.
