CAF reschedules dates of Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) made on Thursday many modifications in the fixtures of the Nations and World Cup qualifiers to fit the new date of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations set to be played in Cameroon.

The CAF announced on Wednesday that the African Cup of Nations will revert to its former time slot of January and February for the next edition in 2021 due to "the unfavourable weather conditions during the period initially scheduled."

The tournament was moved to a June-July slot for last year's first 24-team edition in Egypt, in large part to avoid clashing with the European club season.

The CAF informed the concerned federations that the third and fourth round of the Nations Cup qualifiers will be played between 23 and 31 March, while the fifth round will take place in the first week of June.

The final round will be played in the first week of September.

Egypt are third in their Group (G) in the Nations Cup qualifiers with two points after a disappointing start that saw the Pharaohs held twice against Kenya at home and Comoros.

Concerning the World Cup qualifiers, the first round will be played between 5and 13 October, while the second round will be played between 9 and 17 November.

The remaining four rounds will be played as initially scheduled.

The 2022 World Cup qualifiers draw will be held on 21 January.
