PM Madbouly inaugurates Cairo International Book Fair

The fair will be open to the public on Thursday with a record number of 900 publishers


Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem inaugurated on Wednesday the 51st Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) at its new venue at New Cairo's Egypt’s International Exhibitions Centre (EIEC).

The fair, which runs between 22 January and 5 February, will be open to the public on Thursday.

This year's edition will host a record number of 900 publishers and 41 vendors for used books, all housed in 808 wings.

The fair's guest of honour is Senegal and this year’s Person of the Fair is the renowned Egyptian scholar and geographer Gamal Hemdan (1928-1993).

Until 2018, the annual fair was held at the fairground in Nasr City. The admission ticket to the fair this year will be 5 EGP.

Senegal's ambassador to Egypt, Illy Saiby, expressed his pleasure to have his country as this year’s guest of honour, saying that its participation will show the diverse faces of Senegal's culture.

For the second year, the General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) is cooperating with the Cairo Transport Authority to provide designated bus lines and stations for fair visitors.

There will be seven designated bus routes this year in Cairo with a total of 80 buses that can reach up to 100 buses on weekends with a fixed fare of 6 EGP.

The following is list of routes:

Abdel-Moneim Riad Square:Starts from the square through Ramses, Abbasiya, Al-Azhar University, Mehwar El-Mosheer, up to the book fair.

Abbasiya:Through Nadi El-Sekka, Al-Azhar University, Mehwar El-Mosheer, up to the book fair.

Giza Square:Passing Cairo University, Sayeda Aisha, Autostrad, Al-Azhar University, up to the book fair.

Nozha El-Gedida:Passing Hijaz Square, Makram Ebeid, Mostafa El-Nahas Square, Manhal, Al-Wafaa wal Amal, up to the book fair.

Amiriya:From Matariya Square, passing Helmeya, Sefarat neighbourhood, and then to the book fair.

Madinet Al-Salam:Autostrad to the book fair.

Mazalat:From Mazalat to Hadayek El-Kobba to the book fair.

15 May City:This line will go directly from 15 May City to the book fair.

Microbus stations:This service will offer direct microbuses from the following squares and microbus stations: Helwan, Sayeda Aisha, Moasassa, Ahmed Helmy, and Abdel-Moneim Riad
