Sudanese Al-Hilal beat Platinum, raising pressure on Ahly in CAF Champions League

Ahly will host Etoile du Sahel on Sunday at El-Salam stadium as the two teams will battle it out to qualify for the CAF Champions League quarterfinals


Sudanese side Al-Hilal Omdurman defeated FC Platinum of Zimbabwe 1-0 in the fifth round of Group B games of the CAF Champions League, adding more pressure on Egypt's Ahly who will face Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel on Sunday.



Al-Hilal snatched the runners up place in Group B from Ahly after Saturday's win over Platinum while Etoile du Sahel stayed in the lead.



Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel are in the driving seat of Group B ranking with nine points, sharing the same points with Sudanese side Al-Hilal Omdurman while Ahly became third in the group's ranking with seven points, six points over FC Platinum who cemented in the bottom.



FC Platinum failed to make use of the home and crowd advantage when they hosted Al-Hilal on Saturday as the latter's striker Mohamed Eldai snatched the game points for his side six minutes before the final whistle.



Ahly will host Etoile du Sahel in the fifthth round of Group B games on Sunday at El-Salam stadium as the two teams will battle it out to qualify for the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.



In another pitch, South African Mamelodi Sundowns FC drew 2-2 with Petro Atletico of Angola in the fifth round of Group C games, also on Saturday.



Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals after the draw as they are leading their group with 11 points, two points over Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, while Petro Atletico are third with only three points.



Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gaston Sirino opened the scoring for his side in the 24 points with a penalty kick before Ricardo Job snatched the equaliser for the hosts Petro Atletico three minutes before the break.



Jacques Tuyisenge scored the second goal for Petro Atletico in the 72nd minute to give hosts a tempory lead before Motjeka Madisha scored the draw for Mamelodi Sundowns during the injury time to finish the game with 2-2 draw between the two sides.
