AS Roma icon Francesco Totti has said that he is happy for his former teammate, the “golden and exceptional” Mohamed Salah, insisting that he could not have imagined seeing the Egyptian international player winning the UEFA Champions League title.



The 27-year-old winger Salah played alongside Roma's retired legend Totti from 2015 to 2017 before departing Italy to join English Premier League side Liverpool.



The Pharaohs star has scored 34 goals in 83 matches in different competitions with the Giallorossi.



"I would not have imagined that Salah would have won the Champions League. If he had stayed in Rome it would have been almost impossible," Totti said in an interview with sports streaming service DAZN on Wednesday.



"But having changed and going to a club that won a lot, he had more chances," he added.



Salah has delivered outstanding performances since joining the Reds; winning three titles, the Champions League as well as the European Super Cup last season before clinching the Club World Cup title last month.



"I am happy for him, because he is a golden and exceptional boy. Then being a stratospheric player, he made that qualitative leap from Rome to Liverpool that nobody would have expected. He is that player who splits your games and changes it at any time," said Totti, who announced his football retirement in 2018.



The former Chelsea player Salah, who ended the Premiere League competition as the top scorer in the last two seasons, has scored 11 goals in 20 league appearances with Liverpool so far this season.
