Egypt's prime minister directs governors to pay attention to road maintenance

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has given directives to governors to pay more attention to maintenance of roads across the country and to submit their proposals to develop roads as part of the next fiscal year's work plan.

During a gathering on Thursday with the board of governors, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy and Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir, Madbouly requested the governors prepare a comprehensive report on the road projects carried out during the 2018/2019 fiscal year, and new ones that are set to be executed next year.

With a total cost of EGP 5.4 billion, 2,050 projects were carried out during last year on a total length of 2,935 kilometres of road, the local development minister said, adding that 4,216 other road projects with a total cost of EGP 11.5 billion are under construction on 5,930 kilometres of road.
