Egypt has suspended proceedings at all courts for two weeks over fears of the spread of the coronaviurs, the justice ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The move follows measures announced earlier to stem the spread of the virus, including closing all schools and universities for two weeks, the cancellation of large public gatherings, the halting of local sports events and restrictions on mass prayers.

Cases at all courts will be delayed without the need of parties to lawsuits to be present in court, the ministry said.

The decision is intended to limit the large number of people who gather at courts nationwide, it added.

However, administrative work at all court will proceed normally to meet the deadlines of cases.

Egypt has 110 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including two deaths: a German tourist and a 60-year-old Egyptian woman.
