Egypt’s Sisi reviews international coronavirus efforts, border security with top state officials

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has discussed with top state officials the country’s ongoing international coordination to combat the coronavirus as well as border security and counterterrorism efforts, the presidency spokesman said.



El-Sisi met on Wednesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, chief of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel and the ministers of defence, foreign affairs and irrigation.



The officials discussed state efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus and the “ongoing contacts at the foreign level to discuss international coordination procedures in this regard,” a statement by Egypt’s presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady said.



The officials discussed measures to beef up security along Egypt’s borders and combat terrorism, in addition to the latest developments in a number of regional issues amid “challenges threatening security in the region.”



The meeting also reviewed the government's efforts to provide services to citizens and the continuation of production across various industries, especially staple food commodities and agricultural products.
