Art Alert: 'Antony and Cleopatra' online from UK National Theatre's lockdown streaming programme
"Spectacular tragedy. Go see it. You won’t be sorry." wrote a theatre reviewer forThe Timesupon the premiere of Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra by London's National Theatre back in 2018.
The play is now available to watch for a limited time at the theatre's YouTube channel. Followthis linkto watch it.
The over three-hour iconic Shakespearean play is directed bySimon Godwin featuring Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo in the protagonists' roles.
The performance was released on YouTube on Thursday, 7 May, and will remain accessible for one week as part of the theatre's initiative to provide good entertainment to people during the Covid-19 lockdown.
In addition to the full play, the National Theatre also releaseda short videointroducing viewers to the costume design process for the Antony and Cleopatra production.
The National Theatre uploads one play every Thursday, showcasing theatre plays or theatre adaptations of famed national literary treasures.
Among past performances are Shakespeare's Twelth Night,Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, and Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.
