The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has warned against anonymous coronavirus test kits sold online, saying the devices are not for sale to the public.
"All imported test kits for the new coronavirus are imported for government bodies concerned with detecting and treating the coronavirus, and are not authorised to be sold by any other entity," the EDA said in a statement on Monday.
The authority said it is overseeing firms that import COVID-19 testing kits to ensure they abide by the required standards and do not sell these devices to private laboratories or pharmacies.
The medicine regulatory body sought to reassure the public that it is tightening control on the drug market and medical equipment outlets, and will take necessary legal measures in coordination with supervisory bodies to panelise violators.
The EDA called on citizens to refer to healthcare providers in this regard and stick to all preventative measures to confront the spread of the pandemic.
Egypt recorded its highest daily rise in coronavirus cases on Sunday with new 510 infections, bringing the total number of cases to 12,229, including 630 fatalities.
