Egyptian Football Association's technical director tests positive for coronavirus

Egyptian football clubs had already halted training, asking players to stay fit at home until further notice


The technical director of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Mahmoud Saad tested positive for the coronavirus, the association announced on Thursday.

The EFA said Saad contracted the virus after coming into direct contact with a number of positive cases that arrived in Egypt.

"Saad will follow the treatment protocol to fight the virus," the EFA added.

Football activities in Egypt have been suspended since mid-March over the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.

Egyptian football clubs had already halted training, asking players to stay fit at home until further notice.

According to the latest health ministry statement issued on Wednesday, Egypt registered 910 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 19,666 cases and the death toll to 816 nationwide.
