Egyptian actor Mahmoud Masoud dies at 67

Born in 1952, Masoud acted in scores of works under renowned Egyptian directors


Well-known Egyptian actor Mahmoud Masoud died in the early morning hours today, head of theArtists' SyndicateAzouz Adel revealed in a statement.

Born 3 September 1952, Masoud obtained his Bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in 1975.

His began by acting in theatre and moved to perform in numerous plays in Cairo's Al-Taleea (Experimental) Theatre.

Soon he launched his career in film and television, appearing in almost 200 works by renowned Egyptian directors.

His cinema career includes roles in popular films such as Maganeeno, Al-Motamarid (The Rebel), Al-Sharisa (The Fierce), and Hikaya To (The Story of To).

Masoud was best known for his roles in dozens of television series. He acted in Al-Liqa Al-Thani (The Second Meeting), Mughamarat Zakia Hanem (TheAdventures of Zakia Hanem), Gomhorreya Zefta (The Republic of Zefta), and October Al-Akher (The Other October).

Though in the last decade Masoud's focus was on television series, he still occasionally performed in films and in theatre.

The funeral and wake procedures for Masoud are yet to be revealed.
