Painter and sculptor Dieb will put on an exhibition at Galerie Terrain Vagh in Paris, opening on World Refugee Day

Syrian artist Oroubah Dieb will present her paintings and sculptures at the Galerie Terrain Vagh in Paris in a new exhibition that opens on World Refugee Day.

The exhibition, titled “Materials in Exile,” will run from 20 to 30 June.

Born in Damascus in 1968, Dieb graduated from the Damascus Institute of Practical Arts in 1991.

Based in France since 2016, she works with children and art as well as creating her own work. She has also worked with children in refugee camps in Lebanon.

At the Galerie Terrain Vagh, Oroubah will put displacement of populations at the centre of her work.

She creates collages enhanced with paint, borrowing from the colours of the traditional outfits of Syrian peasant women.

"In her paintings, Oroubah Dieb talks about exile, far from a happy daily life. Between abstraction and figuration, her work is filled with themes of exile, love, memory," the exhibition note reveals.

Organised by the United Nations on 20 June every year, World Refugee Day aims to raise awareness of refugees around the world.
