Mr. Purple will take part in the 11th edition of International Animation Film Festival Golden Kuker, which will take place between 1 and 6 September in Sofia

Egyptian animated movie Mr. Purple (2019) has been chosen to participate in the 11th edition of International Animation Film Festival Golden Kuker, which will take place between 1 and 6 September in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

Directed by Osama Abu Zaid, the 11-minute-long film was written by Ahmed Abdel-Rahim and the music was written by Hani Shenouda.

The film's brief reads: "There is a struggle between two different forces to attract the protagonist of the film to follow their approach. Fearfully, the protagonist has a different approach that he keeps a secret. In the end, he courageously shows his difference in hopes of positively influencing others."

Abu Zaid is an Egyptian animated film director who has participated in numerous animated films festivals. Mr. Purple has entered numerous regional and international competitions.

Zaid is also a member of Egypt's International Animation Forum, where he sat on a jury panel for a number of animated film competitions organised by the forum.

Sofia's International Animation Film Festival Golden Kuker was launched in 2010 as the first new festival dedicated to animation launched in the new millennium in Bulgaria.

The festival is usually held in May, but this year, due to the pandemic, its 11th edition was moved to September.

The festival offers multiple awards with the main winner being awarded the Grand Prix for Best Animated Film.

Other awards are given to a variety of categories, including for films around one minute long and films 10 minutes and longer. The awards are given to short and feature-length animated films as well as animated episodes from television series, best student films and best advertisement films.
