Egypt's culture ministry announces resumption of theatre activities with 84 performances over the summer

The 84 performances of 30 different plays and theatrical works will take place at the open air stage in the Cairo Opera House grounds and at state theatres


Egyptian Culture Minister Ines Abdel-Dayem has said theatrical activities will resume this month, with 30 theatrical works scheduled to be performed on 84 evenings this summer.

Operating under the ministry’s Cultural Production Sector, the resumption of activities will see two phases, with the first one on 12 July with performances staged at the open air theatre in front of the Hanager Theatre, in the grounds of the Cairo Opera House.

The second phase will take place during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, which is set to begin on July 30, with plays staged at all state theatres.

The plays to be staged include The Grand Night (“El-Leila El-Kebira”), produced by the Cairo Puppet Theatre, alongside shows performed by troupes from El-Talia (Avant Gard) Theatre, El-Ghad (Tomorrow) Theatre, Hanager Theatre, Modern Theatre, Children’s Theatre, among numerous other companies.

The ministry’s YouTube channel will continue its “Laugh, Think, Know” initiative, screening ten plays inspired by short stories penned by Anton Chekhov, in addition to their performances in front of an audience.
