Ahly will face Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the Champions League semis on 25 September

Egyptian Premier League leaders Ahly are set to face Wadi Degla in the 24th matchday on Friday amid preparations for the CAF Champions League semifinal games against Moroco's Wydad de Casablanca late in September.

Ahly are in driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League teams' table with 62 points, 17 points over nearest challengers Pyramids and Zamalek.

The Cairo giants will start the game with big ambitions after they returned to winning ways in the league defeating Gouna 1-0 and Masry 2-0 after losing to Zamalek 3-1 in the Egyptian Premier League last month.

Ahly will do without central midfielder Amr El-Sulaya who had been confirmed out of action for two weeks after suffering a muscle strength during the win over Masry in the Egyptian Premier League last week.

Meanwhile, Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng remains a major doubt for the game against Wadi Degla since he has not returned from a visit to his homeland due to flight issues.

Winning the league has become customary for Ahly and their ultimate target remains clinching the coveted African Champions League title, which has eluded them since 2013.

Ahly will face Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the Champions League semis on 25 September, with many questioning Weiler's insistence on fielding a full-strength side in recent domestic league games.

The league resumed last July following a five-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) introducing a grueling match-every-three-days schedule to make sure the season does not end later than October.

Wadi Degla are 10th in the table with 26 points after playing 23 games so far this season.
