Prominent Egyptian director of photography Samir Bahzan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 73.
Many Egyptian filmmakers, critics and cinema entities have marked his loss, with some describing him as “a legendary cinematographer” and some requesting upcoming film festivals honour him.
The filmmaker was among a crew of iconic Egyptian filmmakers that included Youssef Chahine, Radwan El Kashef, Yousry Nasrallah, Shadi Abdel-Salam and Daoud Abdel Sayed.
Starting his career with Armies of the Sun by Abdel-Salam, followed by epic war film The Bullet is Still in My Pocket, Bahzan's filmography also includes memorable films like Alexandria Again and Forever, Land of Fear, Al-Madina, Bab Al-Shams, Scheherazade Tell Me a Story, and many others.
