Road accident death toll on rise in Egypt

The latest in a series of deadly road accidents has left 8 dead and 9 injured, while at least 55 have lost their lives in the last 3 days


Eight people were left dead while nine were injured, after a microbus crashed into a pickup truck on Friday in the Beheira governorate of Egypt.

Ayman Saeed Ismael, the 38 year old driver of the Microbus, was driving towards the city of Kafr El Dawar when suddenly he caught site of a pickup truck cutting across the divide and heading towards him. When he tried to dodge the truck, he lost control of his car, which subsequently flipped. The driver of the truck fled the scene.

The prosecution has begun investigating the incidence and has ordered the immediate arrest of the truck driver.

The injured have been moved to the Kafr El Dawar Hospital for treatment. The governor of Beheira, Mohamed Sharawy, has ordered LE 5000 ($860) to be given to the families of the dead and LE 1000 ($172) to the injured.

In the last three days, at least 55 have lost their lives and 255 were injured in accidents across Egypt.
