Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has ordered that raw materials and modern equipment be provided for Damietta Furniture City (DFC) so it can serve as an integrated and specialised centre for furniture manufacturing.

In a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the presidential aid for national and strategic projects Sherif Ismail, El-Sisi said that the DFC should be supported in order to meet the needs of the domestic market and to open the door for exporting to African and Arab countries.

The president stressed the importance of boosting investment opportunities in the DFC to provide direct and indirect job opportunities, presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement following the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy, Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea, and Damietta Governor Manal Wad, among others.

The industrial city, which was inaugurated on December 2019 by the Egyptian president, is spread over 331 feddans and aims to serve as a springboard for small and medium-sized enterprises.
