Liverpool’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah said he is happy to reach the Reds’ legend Steven Gerard’s record of most scores goals in the UEFA Champions League main phase.

Salah scored his 21st goal on Tuesday during Liverpool's 5-0 victory against Italy’s Atalanta in the second round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, equalising Gerard's record.

“Of course I’m very happy to be the highest one. Steven Gerrard is a legend for the club. It’s something I’m very proud of,” Salah told Liverpool’s official website.

“But as I’ve said before, the most important thing is the team. So I’m happy to score goals to help the team to win games, that’s the most important thing,” he added.

The 2019 Champions League winners won in all three matches without conceding any goals, and will be able to qualify to the round of 16 if they defeat Atalanta in the fourth round, leading group D which includes Ajax and Midtjylland.

The 28-year-old winger revealed that the current edition of the Champions League will be tough.

“But I think we are doing good in the Premier League, we’re doing good in the Champions League. As Liverpool, as a team, we have to fight for everything – that’s our job, that’s why we have to put pressure on ourselves.

“I’m sure we’re going to fight in each competition, in the Premier League as well. We want to win everything and hopefully we can do it,” he concluded.
