Ten professors from The American University in Cairo (AUC) have been named among the Elsevier list of the top 2 percentmost cited scientists in various disciplines worldwide.

The database is created by experts from Stanford University based on data from Elsevier’s Scopus, the abstract and citation database.

The database includes the top 2 percent of scientists in 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields and provides standardised information on citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.

The list includes AUC professors Hassan Azzazy, professor and chair of the chemistry department, and Mohamed Farag, professor of chemistry.

From the engineering departments: Tamer El-Batt, professor and director of the graduate programme, department of computer science and engineering; Ezzeldin Yazeed, professor and director of the graduate programme in the department of construction engineering; Yehea Ismail, professor at the department of electronics and communications engineering and director of the nano electronics and devices centre at AUC and Zewail City; Amal Esawi, professor at the department of mechanical engineering; Maki Habib, professor at the department of mechanical engineering; and Mohy Mansour, professor at the department of mechanical engineering.

From the physics department: Mohamed Sweillam, professor and chair of the department of physics, and Nageh Allam, professor at the department of physics.

"Since coming to the School of Sciences and Engineering, I have always described its faculty as those who have regional expertise with global impact. The placement of several of our faculty in the 2 percent most impactful, globally, substantiates that belief," said Dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering at AUC Hassan El-Fawal.
