Egypt is participating in clinical trials with other countries to develop coronavirus vaccines, according to the health minister
Egypt is currently working with countries around the world to secure a COVID-19 vaccine once one is tested and proven effective, Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Tuesday.
Minister Zayed made the statement in an online workshop held by the Ministry of Health and Harvard Medical school to discuss the latest developments in diagnosing and treating coronavirus.
Zayed said the ministry is cooperating with the World Health Organisation and China’s Sinovac Biotech to launch a new production line to produce vaccines.
She also said that Egypt is participating in clinical trials with other countries to develop coronavirus vaccines.
The minister also revealed that Egypt is cooperating with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance to provide the country with 20 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine as soon as it is proven to be effective.
Zayed said that the coronavirus protocols are continuously updated in Egypt by the scientific committee formed to combat the virus, adding that there were 27 operation rooms – one in each governorate – that follow up on cases nationwide.
Egypt has so far registered 113,381 coronavirus cases, including 101,981 fully recovered patients and 6,560 fatalities.
The ministry has increased the number of testing labs to 60 nationwide and has upgraded more fever and chest hospitals to receive COVID-19 patients.
The minister said that medical staff are being trained on the latest COVID-19 medical protocols and that there are 800 people currently working in the call centre for the 105 COVID-19 hotline, which was launched by the ministry to answer inquiries about the virus in Arabic and English.
