Egypt condemned on Sunday evening the latest in a series of attacks by the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in Yemen against Saudi Arabia, describing them as “terrorist and despicable” acts.

“Egypt expresses its full condemnation of such despicable, terrorist acts that represent a threat to the regional security and stability and a violation of the principles of the international and humanitarian law,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis rebels in Yemen said it intercepted and destroyed on Sunday four bomb-laden drones that were launched towards the south of the Kingdom early on Sunday.

Since the Saudi-led coalition launched a military intervention in Yemen in 2015 to support the Yemeni government, the Kingdom intercepted and aborted hundreds of drone and missile strikes by the Houthis.

The foreign ministry reiterated Egypt’s support to Saudi measures to deal with these “hostile” acts in order to preserve its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On Sunday, Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry affirmed during a meeting in Cairo with his Yemeni counterpart, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, Cairo's constant stance that a political solution is the best way to settle the Yemeni crisis.
